Christian Kercy, Trombonist

Christian Kercy, a seventeen-year-old trombonist and Primavera Artist, is currently a senior at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science. Christian started playing the trombone when he was in middle school in Play On, Philly! and started taking lessons in 8th grade. He currently participates in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and Bravo Brass. 

In his sophomore year, Christian was accepted into Philadelphia Young Artist Orchestra and Bravo Brass and, in the following year, was promoted into PYO, which he is currently in. He was also a member of Philadelphia Sinfonia Players in 8th grade and then joined Philadelphia Sinfonia in 9th and 10th grade.

With the assistance of Primavera Fund, Christian was able to go to a fair amount of summer music programs. These include Kinhaven, Curtis Summerfest and Philadelphia International Music Festival. He has played for some of the most well-known trombonists in Philly, whether that be for masterclasses or lessons, such as Weston Sprott, Nitzan Haroz, and Matt Vaughn. His most frequent teacher is Jarred Antonacci, with whom he has weekly private lessons. For college, he seeks to major in music performance and the schools that he has auditioned for are Temple Univerisity, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes School of Music, and The Peabody Institute. Christian has recently been accepted into Temple and is currently awaiting the responses from the other schools.
