APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-25 SEASON ARE NOW CLOSED
Please consider the following information as you prepare your audition for next year.
What is a Primavera Artist?
Please read through the following to determine whether becoming a Primavera Artist is a good fit for you before applying.
The Primavera Fund was founded on the principle that every young musician should have access to a high level music education, and that financial strain should not be a barrier to musical growth. Therefore, in order to qualify to audition for The Primavera Fund, you must first demonstrate financial need. To determine whether you meet the financial qualification, review the estimations in the MIT Cost of Living Calculator. Extenuating circumstances will also be considered.
We expect a lot of our Artists. If chosen, it is because you demonstrate great potential and ability. If accepted, we expect that you will also show the drive and commitment it takes to pursue a career in music.
Our goal is to prepare each Primavera Artist for acceptance into the top conservatories and university music programs by providing individualized, focused support, resources and access to the best educational opportunities in Philadelphia and beyond. To maintain your status as a Primavera Artist, you will be expected to participate fully in the opportunities offered through our program.
Our Directors and staff work closely with every Primavera Artist’s parents, private instructors, and youth orchestra and chamber music directors to make sure that our students are afforded every opportunity for growth. By accepting our sponsorship, you agree to make your music education a top priority and to strive for excellence.
Very few students are accepted to conservatory or college music programs and we want you to be one of them.
Program Expectations: We expect you to participate in weekly private lessons, and to participate in a minimum of one weekly orchestral program and one other, smaller ensemble program. In addition to these structured activities, we expect you to practice a minimum of 2 hours daily. We also expect you to participate in musical activities in the summer months.
Conduct Expectations: We expect that you will conduct yourself in a respectful manner, which includes respecting your fellow musicians by arriving well before the downbeat or assigned ensemble time. We expect Primavera Artists to maintain good academic and disciplinary standing.
Parent & Family Expectations: Students will need your assistance in getting to private lessons and other activities on time. We also need to be able to have timely and reliable communications with you, especially if the student is under 18 years old. If the student is going on a college visit, we will need your assistance in planning and chaperoning the trip, since we do not send minors alone.
Audition Requirements:
All applicants must have a minimum of one year of experience on their instrument and must be enrolled in an extracurricular music program or an after school program.
Applicants will be required to play one Major scale and its RELATIVE minor scale in as many octaves as possible first in quarter notes, then in eighth notes, then in sixteenth notes. A solo piece that demonstrates the applicant’s current level is also required. No accompanist is required for auditions.
