Cyrano Jett Rosentrater, Violinist and composer
Cyrano Jett Rosentrater, 13 years old, attends the eighth grade at the Julia Reynolds Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Cyrano started playing the violin at the age of four and the piano at the age of five under the tutelage of Scott Wagner and Dr. Ariane Alexander, respectively. They are both graduates of the Curtis Institute of Music and Juilliard Music School. As a young child, Cyrano marveled at how each part in the orchestra is like a puzzle piece. If you put them together, you create the medium that can take you anywhere: music. Currently, Cyrano is a member of the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra, a branch of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Institute. This summer, he was concertmaster of the All City Summer Academy Orchestra. Last year, Cyrano was concertmaster of the Philadelphia Young Musicians Orchestra and the Julia R. Masterman Chamber Orchestra. He also led the Musicopia Young String Players ensemble. In previous summers, Cyrano was assistant principal second violin in the Philadelphia Young Musicians Orchestra, and the Philadelphia International Music Festival Silver Orchestra. He was a member of the Musicopia String Orchestra, the Philadelphia International Music Festival Gold Orchestra, and the Play On Philly Symphony Orchestra.
Cyrano had a masterclass with individual instruction by virtuosa Hilary Hahn. He also had masterclasses with Dara Morales, assistant principal second violin of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Alexandros Sakarellos, violinist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Paul Arnold, violinist in the Philadelphia Orchestra. He was part of a Play-In with world-class soloist Itzhak Perlman at the Kimmel Center, and a Project 440 workshop with violinist and composer Jessie Montgomery. In 2019, Cyrano was a recipient of a Marian Anderson grant for young artists. Cyrano won the state division of the MTNA music junior composition competition. He also received an honorable mention in the regional division. Cyrano studies composition, and music theory with his piano teacher, Dr. Ariane Alexander at the ARIOSO Online Conservatory. Cyrano is also a composer. He has composed variations on La Folia for piano, many salon works for 4-8 violins, a rondo for a string orchestra, a string quartet, a horn concerto for horn and full orchestra, two nocturnes for piano, a cadenza for the Mozart violin concerto no. 3, a pastoral work for orchestra, and others. Many works have been performed in front of audiences. He has participated in four New Jersey Music Teachers’ Association piano competitions and juried recitals, receiving marks of Superior plus. He has appeared on WRTI, playing an excerpt of the Symphony no. 6 op. 6 by J. C. Bach on violin while was a member of Musicopia String Orchestra. In his free time, Cyrano likes to compose music and watch informational videos on YouTube and read books about theory, composition, film scoring, music history, and using Digital Audio Workstations. He also loves reading scores of the great masters like Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, and others. When he is not doing anything music related, Cyrano enjoys relaxing at home and playing video games with friends.
