Janae Horn, Violinist

In 2018 Janae auditioned for the Primavera Fund, a mentorship and financial aid program for classical musicians. She was accepted.

Janae began playing the violin at the age of six at Settlement Music School. She began studying with her first teacher, Stoykova Albana, in 2009. In 2010 Janae became a member of Silver Strings, a group led by her teacher Stoykova Albana. Janae played in Silver Strings for four years as the concertmaster. In 2011 Janae became a member of Settlement Music School’s Junior Orchestra. She played on the Junior Orchestra for 2 years and then graduated to the Intermediate Orchestra in 2013. Janae continued studying violin with Kwag Yu in 2014. In September of 2017 Janae joined the Settlement Music School chamber orchestra led by Jean Shook. In May of 2018 it was suggested by Settlement Music School that Janae transition to the tutelage of Lee Snyder, Settlement Music School’s top violin teacher. During the summer of 2018 Janae auditioned and was accepted by both Philadelphia Young Artist Orchestra and Philadelphia Sinfonia Players.  Janae accepted membership with Philadelphia Sinfonia Players (PSP) conducted by Danielle Garrett.

In addition to being a violinist Janae Horn is a homeschool student. She has been homeschooled by her mother her entire life. Janae has 7 siblings (4 sisters and 3 brothers). She was born and raised in the  Mt Airy section of Philadelphia by her father and mother, James and Rhonda Horn.

In 2012 Janae was accepted into the Philadelphia Young Musicians scholarship program. She also had the privilege of being one of the first students accepted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance For Youth (PMAY) Initiative. In 2018 Janae also auditioned for the Primavera fund, a mentorship and financial aid program for classical musicians. She was accepted.

Janae’s plans include continuing her education, majoring or minoring in music, being a violin teacher and a solo violinist.
