Joseph Tarsia, Double Bass
I am Joseph Tarsia, a 12-year-old double bassist with three years of experience, taught by Kevin MacConnell and a member of the Primavera Fund. While I am interested in jazz, I am primarily an orchestral player. I am personally proud of my ability to pursue the trades and goals I want to learn and accomplish without holding myself back. This year, my goal is to be happy with my musical progress and not be too hard on myself if I don’t finish everything I hoped to, because there’s always next year. Beyond music, I’m also a proud artist who enjoys sketching, and I have a growing Lego collection that I love building and displaying. In addition to my artistic interests, I hope to get outside more often, whether it’s relaxing or enjoying outdoor activities like tossing a football or longboarding. I also want to pursue art more seriously, not just as something to fill time in the car, but as a real hobby. Musically, I’m proud of my progress, including completing the first movement of the Capuzzi Concerto in D Major and being part of YMDO. These achievements reflect my growth as a bassist and continue to inspire new goals. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who support me, including the Primavera Fund, the alumni, and Susanna Loewy. They help me through tough times and remind me of the importance of community in the music world, which keeps me motivated to move forward.
