Yiguo Zhang, violin

I am a 14 year old violinist who attends Lower Merion High School. I currently study violin with Shelley Beard Santore, music theory with Beth Benson, and chamber music with Emma Sullivan. In addition, I have participated in the PYAO and the District 11 orchestra festival. During my time playing violin, I have received the David Jacobs and Anthony Simmons Memorial Scholarships, as well as masterclasses with violinist Randall Goosby. Outside of music, I enjoy learning about the sciences, solving puzzles, art, and mathematics.

At the age of 5, I started learning the violin and studied at Settlement Music School with Daniel Elyar. At a young age, music quickly became a major part of my life. At the age of 7, I joined the Philadelphia Boys Choir, which further propelled my love towards music. The choir gave me performance opportunities in famous concert halls such as Carnegie hall and concerts with organizations such as Opera Philadelphia.

In 2016, I got my first ensemble experience through the orchestra programs with Monique Johnson and Anne Parrett, as well as studying chamber music with Jean Louise Shook at Settlement Music School. These experiences I had at a young age gave me the opportunities and nurturing that brought me to the point where I am today.
